Snohomish teen serves as page for Rep. Dan Kristiansen
in Washington House of Representatives

Peter Faber, a sophomore at Snohomish High School and Academy Northwest, recently served as a page in the Washington State House of Representatives. He was sponsored by Rep. Dan Kristiansen, R-Snohomish.

Pages assist members’ offices by delivering messages, completing office tasks, and helping on the floor when the House of Representatives is in session. Between their work, pages attend page school, where they learn about the legislative process. They also participate in mock committee hearings where they play the role of lawmakers, stakeholders, and the public.

Peter, who is a neighbor to Rep. Kristiansen, discovered the page program by looking online for ways to become more involved in government. Peter applied for the program and Rep. Kristiansen agreed to be his sponsor. Peter’s favorite part of paging was seeing how government actually works from the inside. He also liked the comradery of the pages. He said it was great how quickly they all got to know each other and enjoy each other’s company while working together.

“I have known Peter his entire life and his family are very good friends. It has been very gratifying to watch him grow into a very responsible young man who is involved in his high school and his community,” said Kristiansen. “It was a pleasure to sponsor Peter. All of us appreciated his help in the Legislature.”

To become a page, applicants must have a legislative sponsor and be between the ages of 14 and 16. Pages are required to obtain written permission from their parents and school.

Peter is the 16-year-old son of Peter and Sheila Faber of Snohomish. Peter hopes to attend the Naval Academy after high school and become an aviator and a commissioned officer with the U.S. Navy.
