Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Due to election year restrictions, this will be the last e-mail update I will be sending you until November. In my e-mail to you on Monday, I said the governor has now signed the supplemental budget into law. Nearly $800 million in new and increased taxes are also in the process of being implemented. I voted against both the budget and tax bills because we could have provided a balanced budget WITHOUT tax increases. Instead, the majority party fell back on business as usual, relying on taxpayers to bail out state government for its failure to live within its means.
Seattle Times says budget is unsustainable
Last Friday, an editorial by the Seattle Times provided a very good summary of the supplemental budget, noting “It is not sustainable.” The editors went on to say, “The budget is carried on the backs of the people, who are in the same recession the state is. We had our own burdens to carry. We have had to adjust, to reset our plans. The state, for the most part, has not.” I invite you to click here to read the editorial.
Click on the attachment and read my 2010 Legislative Review
I also invite you to read my 2010 Legislative Review, which is attached. It provides details on the tax increases, the budget and other important issues of this past session.
The report is in a PDF format, which most computers can read. However, if your computer will not open the attachment (it is a safe attachment), you may download the free Adobe reader at: http://get.adobe.com/reader/?promoid=BUIGO, or call my office and I will be glad to mail it to you.
Participate in my Telephone Town Hall meeting this Thursday night
Once again, I want to invite you to participate in my Telephone Town Hall meeting this Thursday evening. Call in from your home from 6:50 p.m. to 7:50 p.m. Here’s the toll-free phone number: 1-877-229-8493. When prompted, add PIN number 15786. That will connect you to a community call with other residents of the 39th District. You can listen to the call and at any time if you have a question for me, press Star 3 (*3) on your telephone keypad. That will connect you to our operators who will assist with preparing your call to go “live” with me. I look forward to talking with you.
Contact me any time
Remember that I work for you throughout the year, not just when the Legislature is in session. So please feel free to contact my office any time you have questions, comments or suggestions about legislation.
I appreciate the honor of serving you.
In your service,
Dan Kristiansen
