Rep. Dan Kristiansen statement on governor’s state of the state address

Following a joint session of the Washington House and Senate in which Gov. Chris Gregoire delivered the annual state of the state address, Rep. Dan Kristiansen, R-Snohomish, issued the following statement:

“The governor's address is encouraging, because these are the types of things Republicans in Olympia have advocated for years. We have to get the status quo mentality out of Olympia and make real reforms to government. I'm glad she's finally talking about it. The question is, will there be any action to go with the talking? We've heard a lot of talk in the past of reducing and reforming state government, yet we've not seen much to back it up. The proof will be in the actions taken during this legislative session and whether she will support those actions.

“I agree we need bold steps. So many people are unemployed and our economy is in the worst shape in more than 80 years. It's unfortunate that it has taken such tragic circumstances to wake up the leaders in state government to begin listening to the citizens. But will they listen now?

“Throughout the recession and since, my Republican colleagues and I have been offering bold solutions to help put people back to work, retain jobs and get this economy turned around, because we recognize these are the solutions to the state's budget problems. My hope is the majority party finally begins to listen to and accept our proposals, and that we can work together to solve these major problems facing Washington state.”
